What are your views about shielding children from unpleasant truths? When is it important for a child to know such truths? When is it better to keep a child in the dark? And, is it right for an adult to lie to a child to "protect" him or her?

I think it is right to shield children from unpleasant truths when they are very young, but I do think that as they grow older then they will find out the truths. Then it would be wrong to shield them too much because I think that would interfere with the child's learning and development. When the child would grow up and finally learn the truth he/she could feel shocked or regretful that they didn't learn this earlier. I think it is important for a child to know such truths when their ignorance could put them in danger. I think it is better to keep a child in the dark when the situation wouldn't endanger the child and if the truth wouldn't be right to explain at a young age. I think it is alright for an adult to lie to protect him or her because adults are more mature and know what is right for the child.
